Spider tenacity

Here is a rather brightly coloured spider perched on Alan's car door.   He is actually an immature garden cross spider.   

But what is he up to?  Attempted car theft?

Spiders often build their webs on car mirrors while they are parked.  They are remarkably tenacious, only letting go when you get up to speed.
