We mow the fields and scarper

We had eleven volunteers mowing with scythes and clearing the grass with rakes and pitchforks at the last Sunday work morning.  It's pleasant but tiring work so you can't blame them for taking the occasional rest

But when I said I was taking a photo they all set to again.

This section of meadow up by the viewpoint was mown already in May but it soon grows back.  However, taking two crops of grass off it should lower the fertility, which favours the wild flowers over the coarser grasses.

We finished it off on Wednesday 21st September.

Which included all the raking .  .  .  .  .
