While checking a hole in the leaf of one of my potato plants I found this Scarlet Lily Beetle. Bright red with black head and legs. Very smart. They specialise in lilies and and fritillaries and can devastate a crop, as one female can lay up to 450 eggs.. They also sometimes eat potato leaves but only if no lilies are around.
Lily beetles are not very big but then I saw this little character. It is the young nymph of a shield bug, but I don't know which one.
Loads of little creatures all around us.
