WHO'S BEEN PEELING MY APPLES

About this time of year apple trees shed some of their smaller apples to allow the bigger ones to grow.  It used to be known as the 'June Drop' but continues into July.

When I was raking up some of these fallen fruits
I came across several that had been neatly peeled.

The skin had been removed by a series of little mouthfuls . . .

. . . leaving the stem and the tail end intact.  The main flesh of the apples was not eaten.

There were several of these.  I wondered who was doing it.  A squirrel, a mouse, a vole, a hedgehog?
