UNOBTRUSIVES: 2 . GROUNDSEL

Happy to colonise any patch of bare ground, the common Groundsel is everywhere and can be an annoying weed in vegetable patches.  It is an alternative food plant for the caterpillars of the cinnabar moth, who usually prefer ragwort, and is also enjoyed by cage birds and rabbits.


The flowers are like little yellow shaving brushes . . . 
 

. . . and quickly turn into fluffy seed heads like miniature dandelion clocks.  
This is how it spreads so effectively.
